Joe Chiang was a reporter for the Chinese Nationalist Daily newspaper. Attended press conferences at the White House. Life magazine featured photo of him showing credentials to White House security guard to gain entry to White House press conference on December 8, 1941, regarding bombing of Pearl Harbor; Joe is wearing a note on his coat stating, "I am Chinese, not Japanese". During WW2 Joe taught judo and jujitsu to American military service members.

There is a small marble square to the bottom left of the grave marker and on it is a Chinese character symbol which means "strength."
