Samuel Danies [sic] Goes to Final Reward Last Sunday
When word was flashed about over Harvey last Sunday afternoon that Samuel Daniels had died at his home it had the effect of shocking all who knew him. He had not been physically strong for several years, but none could realize that he was so near his reward.
He was taken very ill Friday morning and Saturday his physician realized that unless a change for the better came very soon he would not long be among us. Sunday morning practically all hope was gone and he passed away about 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Congregational church, of which he had been a member for many years and the body was taken to Mt. Greenwood and placed in the receiving vault. Services were conducted by Rev. Hammond, paster of the church.
Mr. Daniels was a native of Pennsylvania, born at South Gibson on September 19, 1856. He received his education at Cazenovia academy, New York and Kingston, Pa.
Mr. Daniels was Harvey's oldest real estate man, having come here in January 1891, when what is now the thriving city of Harvey was mostly raw prairie land and corn fields. He has seen the city grow practically from the beginning to what it is today and he has had a hand in practically all the developments since that early date. Shortly after coming here he went into partnership with G. C. Utley, who in 1902 retired from the firm and Mr. Daniels continued alone.
On November 25, 1891, Mr. Daniels was married to Miss Sarah E. Richards, of South Gibson, Pa, and they have continued to make their home in Harvey ever since.
He leaves to mourn his widow and three children Frank, Sarah and Rupert, also one brother in Denver and one brother and two sisters in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Daniels served two terms as a member of the school board of district 152 and he also was for two terms president of the Harvey Civic club having previously held in the club also a number of minor offices. At the time of his death he was one of the district captains in the Fourth Liberty Loan drive. Since its organization he has been a member of the board of dirctors of the Harvey Building and Loan association, which he helped to organize several years ago.
[missing section] deceased was active in all movements for the betterment of the city of his adoption and no one had to guess as to where Mr. Daniels would be found in any community movement, for he was always on the right side.
Mr. Daniels will be missed in many different circles in Harvey for a long time to come, and today it seems almost impossible for his close friends to realize that he has gone to his reward.
