Lois was born May 6, 1924 near Reliance, South Dakota the daughter of Carl Arthur and Lula Ina (Fletcher) Peterson. She attended school south of Reliance and graduated from Kennebec High School in Kennebec, South Dakota in 1942. On July 27, 1945, Lois was united in marriage to Urban Paul Schoenfelder in Kennebec, South Dakota.
Lois lived most of her life in South Dakota, 50 of those years in Kennebec, and moved to Washington, Iowa in 1999 to live with her daughter. She worked at the ASCS office for over 30 years retiring in 1986. Prior to that she worked at the Lyman County Treasurers Office and the Bob Hills Insurance Office. Lois was a member of the Kennebec Methodist Church in Kennebec, South Dakota. She enjoyed quilting, hand quilting over 70 quilts, and making special baked treats for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and her African violets. Her greatest joy of all was her family. She loved having the grandchildren and great grandchildren come visit.
Lois passed away on Monday, January 12 at her residence in Iowa following a brief illness.
She is survived by one daughter Betty Audiss and husband Mick of Fairfield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Minnie Brech of Phillip, South Dakota; one brother Roland Peterson and wife Billie Mae of Reliance, South Dakota; and four sisters-in-law Donna Peterson, Leola Peterson, Catherine Peterson and Marie Houchin and husband John; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1974, an infant daughter Anna Marie, and 8 siblings including Carl, William "Verle", Lyle, Walter, Eunice, Joyce, Clare and Ronald.
