BURNETTE on obitaury:
The Gadsden Times, Monday, Dec. 10, 1979. Mrs. Cora Burnette, 1019 Alcott Road, died today at a local hosptial following an extended illness. Funeral will be Wednesday 11 a.m. Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel with Rev. Felix Parnell, officiating. Burial in Hokes Bluff Cemetery. Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Lorraise (?) Hutchins, Hokes Bluff; Mrs. Imogene Lawrence, Gadsden; sisters, Miss Leo Brooks, Gadsden; Mrs. Ida Allen, Greensboro, NC; brothers, Raymond Brooks, Sepchoppy, Fla.; Ralph Brooks, Powder Springs, GA; Russell Brooks, Gadsden; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Burnette was a native of Georgia and resided in Gadsden most of her life.

(NOTE: the 1019 Alcott was the same address as Susie Steele Burnette's obituary) Susie Burnette was the stepmother of Marshall Burnett who first married Cora Lee Brooks. Cora Lee was not listed in census records with Marshall and children. Her name appears as an inmate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama - which may have been she was a patient at the hospital or Bryce Hospital. Marshall apparently divorces because he married Irene Shiflett and they are buried in Georgia. Marshall is listed as Burnett #62157778 and Irene shows Burnette #62157787 - but the tombstone is inscribed Burnett.

Cora's Lee's father-in-law, John A. Burnette and his second wife, Susie, are buried in Hokes Bluff Cemetery.
