Moved with his family to Denver in 1872, opening a carriage painting shop on 15th St near Wazee. During the 1880 gold rush in Breckenridge, he operated a sign-painting shop there; his wife Christine operated a boarding house on Ridge St. John became ill with consumption and was moved back to Denver, ending his life at St Joseph's Hospital in 1882. Attached is the only known record of his death; a kind woman at the hospital searched thru boxes in the boiler room for me and found the register. He is buried at Riverside, but has no stone. Father of Howard G, Kathleen E, Jeanette M, George B, Charlie H, Bertha O and Ernest A Giles, all of Denver.
