Daughter of John Warren Day and Donna Maria Aldrich Day of (village) Bradford-Haverhill, Massachusetts. John was a shoemaker at her birth and later worked as a saloon keeper. He died December 1899, while Donna lived to August 1920. Hattie (birth record name) or "Harriet" married John K. Tener on October 30, 1889. He was then a pitcher for the Chicago White Stockings and had just returned from Charles Comiskey's "around the world baseball tour." Tener left baseball and went into business becoming a bank president, and eventually governor of Pennsylvania. He was also president of the National League in the Teens.
