Mr. James H. “Jimmy” Jones, Jr., 81, a resident of North Main Street in Mt. Pleasant died Monday, July 12, 2004, at NHC-Hillview Nursing Home.

The Mt. Pleasant native was the son of the late Dr. James H. Jones, Sr. and the late Aleen Thompson Jones. He was the husband of Louise Epps Jones of Mt. Pleasant. He was a former Vice-President of the Middle Tennessee Bank in Mt. Pleasant and a farmer. Mr. Jones was a Major in the United States Army and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones served as a Maury County Commissioner from 1960 until 1986 and was a member of the State Board of Education from 1965-1972 and the State Board of Regents from 1978 -1985. At Columbia State Community College, the James H. Jones, Jr. Student Center was named in his honor. Mr. Jones was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Betsy (Bob) Duling of Columbia, TN, James H. (Anne) Jones, III of Jackson, MS and L. Epps (Stephanie) Jones of Memphis, TN; a sister, Betsy (William A.) English of Nashville, TN; his grandchildren, Robert Howard Duling, Jr. and Elizabeth Louise Duling both of Columbia, TN, James Henry Jones, IV, Elizabeth Gamble Jones and Margaret Lee Jones all of Jackson, MS, William Epps Jones, Sarah Margaret Jones and Charles Gamble Jones all of Memphis, TN; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Jones Bennett.
