Richard Calvert Bowman passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the age of eighty-four. Born on November 14, 1927, Dick was the youngest of the three children of Junior Joseph Bowman and Mary Lewis Hadlock.

Dick lived all of his life in Kaysville and graduated from Davis High. He ran track, played football and was a student body officer. Dick was a loyal supporter of the city and the school for the rest of his life. He served an LDS mission to the New England States. Following his mission, Dick earned a business degree and ran track at the University of Utah. Dick married Delene Thomson on December 26, 1951 and they became the parents of six children.

After the sudden death of his father, Dick began to run the family's Golden Rule grocery store. He later purchased the business from his mother and the store became Bowman's Market and is Bowman's Superstore today. Dick and the family business have been the sponsors of numerous Kaysville good causes for over fifty years. He was always grateful for the loyalty and support of the community.

Dick's civic involvement included: Kaysville City Council member, Kaysville Rotary Club President, Gateway Boy Scouts District President, Utah Retail Grocer's Board of Directors and Davis Hospital Board of Trustees.

Church and missionary service were important to Dick. As a young father, he served as a missionary guide at Temple Square. He was the bishop of the Kaysville 3rd Ward and served in many church callings. As a couple, Dick and Delene were missionaries at the Joseph Smith Sr. home in Palmyra, New York. In recent years, Dick served at the Ogden and Bountiful Temples.

Delene passed away in 1996, after 44 years of marriage. Dick married Nedra Allen in 2008 and they spent the last three and one-half years caring for one another.

Dick is survived by his wife Nedra and five of his children: Valerie (Bill) Cook, Richard (Shellie) Bowman, Merrilee (Rolfe) Andrus, DeDe (Mike) Sagers, Natalie (Lynn) Ward and 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Delene, his son, Arthur, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Crestwood Stake Center, 855 E. Mutton Hollow Road. Friends may visit family Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before services at the stake center.
