Maud Letitia Colvin, daughter of Mr and Mrs H J Colvin, was born 6 miles west of Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois, January 28,1885 and departed this life, at her home in Melrose Twp, Clark County, Illinois, February 20, 1908, age 23 years and 22 days.

Her parents moved to Arcola, Illinois when she was small and, with the exception of three years, which they lived in Melrose, she spent her childhood in Arcola.

At the age of 13, under the ministry of Rev I A Beitz, she was converted and united with The Church of God at Melrose.

She was married to Ford A Thompson on June 2, 1903 in Arcola, and one daughter, Ruby Edna, now age 3, was blessed to this union.

She was taken on New Years Day but at the time her illness was not considered serious. In January 11, she was taken down with a disease which baffled medical skill. All that tender love and anxious care could suggest was done but it did not please our Heavenly Father to spare her. Death came as a sweet relief to her for she suffered untold, intense agony. When she was first taken down she expressed a desire to be saved and said she didn't want to die. But sometime before she passed away she seemed to catch a glimpse of the glory world and was disappointed when she found she was still on earth. After that she did not dread death and the last words her companion understood from her lips were "I'm saved, I'm saved".

Maud lived an upright life and had a blameless reputation. To her husband she was a loyal, loving compamion; to her little daughter a kind, indulgent mother; to her sistes and brother, a cherished sister; to all her friends a faithful friend.

But Maud is gone and though we sorrow greatly, we look forward to a meeting where sorrow never comes.

Besides her husband and baby, she leaves a father and mother, Mr and Mrs J H Colvin, a sister Mriss Dessa Colvin and brother Hayden Colvin, west of Salem, Illinois and a sister Mrs. James Conover of Arcola, Illinois; besides other relatives and many friends who are very sad because of her untimely demise.

Her funeral was preached at Melrose Saturday, February 22 by Rev T V Nidey, after which she was tenderly and regretfully laid to rest in the Melrose Cemetery.

The large concourse of friends in attendance at these last sad rites and the beauftiful floral offering attested the love and esteem for the departed and sincere sympathy for the bereaved ones.
