BRADFORD and DADE CITY, Fla. - Vera H. Allen, 92, wife and best friend of the late Thomas Phil Allen, walked into the arms of Jesus Oct. 25, 2008. She was born April 18, 1916, in Topsfield, the daughter of Ross and Phylina (Noyes) Hodsdon.
She had been a longtime resident of Bradford prior to moving to Dade City, Fla., six years ago. She was a member of Bradford Baptist Church and attended Calvary Assembly Church, Dade City, Fla. Vera will be long remembered for her sewing, crocheting towels, and knitting mittens and other article's as gifts to her many friends. She also was an avid gardener.
She was a loving mother to four children, daughters, Priscilla Allen and her husband, Theodore, Darolyn Ivey and her husband, George, all of Dade City, Fla., and Mary Merrill of Hudson, and a son, Vaughn Philip Allen of New Britain, Conn.; daughter-in-law, Ruth Allen of Longwood, Fla.; a brother, Warren Hodsdon and his wife, Alice, of Topsfield; a sister, Carol Jordan of Bowdoin; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service 11 a.m. Saturday at Bradford Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Booker and the Rev. Garnett Chute officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall after the service.
Burial will be at Smyrna Mills Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in Vera's memory to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 37445 Clinton Ave., Dade City, FL 33525. Arrangements are in care of Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth.
