"Rev. John G. Norris was born in Dunham, Canada, March 18, 1844, and died at Burtrum, Minnesota, August 26, 1910, of cancer of the stomach. He came to the United States when he was a young man and settled in the southern part of this state, where he was married to Miss Sarah C. Aldrich in 1870. To this union nine children were born, of whom only two survive, John H. Norris, of Idaho, and Charles Norris, of this place. His wife having died over ten years ago, he was married again to Miss Mary S. Streit, July 24, 1901. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive, two daughters and one son. He was a kind, affectionate husband and father, but stern and unbending where principles were at stake. He was converted in the seventies under the labors of C. M. Damon and C. W. LaDue, and felt called of God to preach the gospel. In 1882 he was appointed as supply, under L. M. Coole, to Mapleton and Winnebago City circuit. He also supplied the Alexandria, Leaf Valley and Parker's Prairie in 1883, and in 1884 was received on trial and was sent to the Long Prairie and Browersville circuit. He was admitted into full connection in 1886 and ordained deacon. He was ordained elder in 1894. He has been the pastor of almost every circuit in the North Minnesota conference, and on nearly every charge he served he has had seals to his ministry. He was self-denying, energetic and used his strength and means for the benefit of others. He was known as the shouting preacher. In his last sickness he had hard work to keep his head above the waters, but triumphed over the last enemy by a living faith in the Son of God, and went to his reward. He will live long in the memory of many of this conference who have been helped by his prayers and preaching, for his life has been a benediction to many. His remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the cemetery at Burtrum. The writer officiated at the funeral. W. Barham"
