Philanthropist and oil executive. He became President of the Doheny Mexican Petroleum Company and his work was regarded as one of the great industrial achievements of the American continent. He was one of the first and largest contributors to Occidental College and a dormitory has his name. He also was a principal supporter of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood and the Wylie Chapel was built completely through his funds.
Wylie was in charge of all Doheny interests having been given Power of Attorney and when Doheny stepped down he was named President. At one time he lived at 17 Chester Place which is located on the Doheny estate which is now Loyola Marymount downtown campus. He also owned thousands of acres in Santa Barbara.
