"Mr. Edwin Greble, the marble dealer,died yesterday morning in a parlor car attached to a train on the Pennsylvania Railroad which was about to start for New York. Mr.Greble was observed to fall forward from his seat and When He was picked up he was found to be dead.
Mr. Greble was born in this city October 16, 1806. He was placed by his father with a marble mason in New York when a young man and acquired a thorough knowledge of the business.He removed to this city and established a business on Willow street above twelfth, but in 1849 his entire establishment was burned out. In 1850 he rebuilt his works, this time on Chestnut street, near Seventeenth and the business is still located there. Mr. Greble did a very extensive business,and many houses received part or all of the decorative from his establishment. Mr. Greble was for many years a director of the Franklin Institute at Eighteenth and Chestnut streets. In 1862 he was elected Select Councilman from the Eighth Ward. When Lee invaded Pennsylvania, just before the Battle of Gettysburg, Mr.Greble raised a company of 80 men for the defense of the city, but their services were not needed. A son of the deceased, Lieutenant Colonel J. [I.?] Greble fell at Big Bethel and he had another son in the army.
