Sergeant Henry Broneschans, Jr., 31, of Ashton, lost his life in North Africa on June 16, according to information received in a wire from the war department. With details lacking, it is believed his death was accidental, since there was no fighting in that area for several weeks.
Previously, information had been received the was injured when a truck overturned, but he had written he was recovering and had been released from the hospital.
This is believed to be the first fatality of any of the selectees inducted from Osceola county, although not the first casualty reported here. He was inducted into the army June 9, 1942, and left for overseas duty March 22, 1943.
Boneschans is survived by his wife, Emma, and three children, Kathleen, Henry, and Leonard of Ashton; his father, Henry Boneschans, Sr., of Sanborn, who lives in Goewey township; four sisters and two brothers.
