St. James, MO Newspaper: D. E. Baldwin died at his home in North Dillon Township [Phelps Co, MO] on Thursday Evening, Feb. 20, 1902, of heart disease, after a few hours illness.
The deceased has gone to the barn to feed the stock, where he was found a short time afterward, life being almost extinct. He was taken to the house and everything possible done to revive him, but without avail and he passed away at the age of 73 years.
The deceased was born in Connecticut, coming West a number of years ago. He traveled extensively and being a find workman had no trouble in finding employment at his trade, as a carpenter and builder.
About three years ago, he bought the Ellis Farm, east of town, and lived there a short time and then went to the Indian Territory. He returned to this section last spring and finally bought a small farm near Rathbone, where he resided at the time of his death.
He leaved a devoted widow, three sons and one stepson to mourn his devise. The funeral was held Saturday morning, the remains being laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery [St. James, MO] in this place. [Contributed by Debra Baldwin]
