Daughter of Hollister Baker Thayer and Rebecca Maria Potter.

Ella Francelia Thayer was born Aug. 23, 1847 in Greenfield, MA. She was brought to Troy, Wisconsin by her parents at age six. Her father settled there, was a land owner, and ran a general store for some years during the Civil War and after. Ella taught school for a few years in the Troy area. On June 18, 1869, she married Harvey Lake Randolph in the town of Troy.

Ella, 32, lived in Troy, Walworth County, Wisconsin with her husband, Harvey, railroad laborer, 44, and six children to date, the youngest George, age 3 months. (1880 Census)

Ella and Harvey had nine children, all born between 1870 and 1887. Ella and Harvey lived on the Randolph Farm on the Quarterline Road (later known as Hwy K, then Hwy 20) a few years, then moved to Troy Center, later moving back to the farm.

Listed in 1900 Census, Walworth County, Troy, WI, at age 54, with her husband Harvey, 64, farmer, son, George, 20, and daughters, Gladys, 18 , Ora, 15, and Eula, 12. Married thirty years. Had 9 children, all living.

Listed in 1905 Wisconsin Census, age 57, in Troy, WI, with her husband Henry, 69, and children George, 25, Gladys, 23, and Ula, 18. Henry worked as a farmer.

In 1910, they moved to Milwaukee where Harvey assisted his sons in the hotel business.

Listed in 1910 Census, Milwaukee County, Milwaukee, WI, age 62, with her husband, Harvey, 73, cigar clerk, and daughters, Gladys, 28, hotel cashier, and Ula, 22, hotel telephone operator. Married 38 years.

Listed in 1920 Census, Milwaukee County, Milwaukee, WI, age 72, with her husband, Harvey, 83, and daughters Gladys, 35, and Ula, 31.

After Harvey's death in June 1923, Ella made her home with her daughters Gladys and Eula at 2636 N. Pierce St., in Milwaukee.

Listed in 1925 Milwaukee City Directory, widow. Lived at 141 Wright, Milwaukee, with her daughter Gladys, who worked as a clerk for American Appraisal Company.

On Aug. 23, 1927, an "80th Anniversary Reunion Dinner" was held in her honor at the New Hotel Randolph, in Milwaukee, WI.

Listed in 1930 Census, age 83, widowed, in Milwaukee, WI, living with daughters Beulah, 42, single, and Gladys, 48, single. Both daughters worked as proofreaders for an appraisal company.

She died at age 97 on Jan. 28, 1945. She was buried beside her husband in a family plot at Oak Ridge Cemetery in East Troy, WI (Obituary, East Troy News, Jan. 31, 1945).
