Hilda Sahlfrank Hardy Bean was born in Langenbergsdorf, Germany, on Oct. 15, 1919, to Willie and Frieda Helen Sahlfrank. She as the middle child of five: Otto, Elsie, Hilda, Herbert and Kurt. When Hilda was 3 years old, she and her family emigrated to America.

Hilda married John Calvin (J.C.) Hardy in 1939. They lived in Altadean and later retired to a ranch in Mariposa, where they enjoyed their gardening and ranching. They loved riding their horses and socializing with other ranchers in the hills of Mariposa.

Hilda and J.C. spent happy years together before his death in 1981. Ten years later, Hilda married Alvin Bean, with whom she spent many happy years together managing the ranch and traveling the world on numerous cruises and land tours. Because of her German background, she spent many years as a member of the Sierra Edelweiss German-American Club, serving as vice president of that organization.

Hilda is survived by one son, David Calvin Hardy; and two grandchildren, Jeremy and Kristine. Hilda will be buried at the Mariposa Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church.
