She was born to the parentage of the late, Emma Lee Booker and Jessie J. Booker on March 21, 1919 in Macon, Georgia. She attended M.M. Burdell Elementary and Hudson High School. Mary Jane retired from the Georgia Academy for the Blind, where she was a Houseparent. She became a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church at an early age. Later she attended Bethel Church of God faithfully. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Hathel C. Bowden, Sr.
From that union three children, Jane Grant, Hathel C. Bowden, Jr. of Macon and Jessie Bowden, Oakland, California were born, who survive her along with a devoted goddaughter, Mary (Johnnie) Booze of Macon; three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; several cousins.
