He was married to his loving wife, Lois Niven McKoy for 67 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning from the war, he worked at Bell South Telephone Company and retired after 37 years of service.
Leonard was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over 67 years. While a member, he taught Sunday School for 9 and 10 year old boys and was a Deacon in the church. He was also a charter member of the Jack Marshburn Sunday School class and a member of the Baptist Men's Prayer Group. In addition, he participated in the Yolk Fellows, ministering to the spiritual needs of those in local detention centers and nursing homes. He also took great pleasure in visiting the sick and the homebound.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Lois, their three children and their spouses: Linda and Dr. Jerry Bron, Kathy and Jeff Norris, and Al and Dana McKoy; five grandchildren: Jennifer Utley, Allison Jones, Elizabeth Schaller, Jakob Bron, and Katy Norris; and six great-grandchildren: Rachel and Mary Grace Utley, Josh, Sam and Ella Jones, and Leah Bron.
The family will receive friends at the Temple Baptist Church Chapel on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 10 a.m. Following the visitation, a celebration of life service will be held in the Temple Baptist Church Sanctuary at 11 a.m. The service will be performed by Dr. Steve Spangler with the assistance of Dr. Jerry D. Bron and Dr. James Whetstone. A private graveside service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park for immediate and extended family members.
