Mrs. C. H. Clark, Pioneer Resident Dies December 3

Death called one of the pioneer mothers of this community last Friday, with the passing of Mrs. C. H. Clark, 77, following a paralytic stroke a few days previous.

Mrs. Clark, whose maiden name was Etta Belle Gage, was born at Winona, Minn. on November 25, 1866. Her early life was spent at this point and on January 1, 1887 she was united in marriage with C. H. Clark. In 1909, Mr. and Mrs. Clark and family, endowed with a pioneering spirit, came to North Dakota and located in Beach, which at that time was fast developing into a thriving western village on the state's most western frontier. Mr. Clark, a blacksmith and woodworker, immediately started a blacksmith shop, and in which business he engaged for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Clark were the parents of seven children, two of whom preceded their mother in death. Besides her husband, Mrs. Clark is survived by four sons, Warren and Clifford of Beach; Jess of Tacoma, Wash. and Harry of Billings, Mont.; one daughter, Mrs. Frank Spaulding of Beach; also a half-sister, Miss Maud Gage of Winona, Minn.; and a number of grandchildren and friends.

Mrs. Clark was a very fine woman and her acts of kindness and many good deeds will long be remembered. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the United Brethren Church, conducted by Rev. D. E. Kenney, in which he paid a beautiful tribute to this fine pioneer mother.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral services were: Harry Clark of Billings, Mont.; Dean Sinclair of Baker, Mont.; Dan Clark of Seattle, Wash.; Jess Clark of Tacoma, Wash.; and Anna Spaulding of Winona, Minn.
