Founder of O'Melveny and Meyers, leading Los Angeles lawyer firm and was dean of the California Bar Assn. Los Angeles civic leader. Responsible for bringing hydroelectric power to Southern California. Known as being one of the most distinguished citizens of Los Angeles, he played a leading role in the financial, business and cultural development of California. At one time he was Chairman of the California State Parks Commission, and he was involved in helping establish the State park system. He was the founder of the Los Angeles City Civil Service Board, and helped organize some of the first banks in the city. Columnist Harry Carr said that O'Melveny had the 'most perfectly balanced life' he had ever observed. Into the late 1980's the O'Melveny & Myers law firm was the 13th largest law firm in the United States. He was also President of the Dominguez Estate Company for 25 years.
