Former Mayor of Kentwood, Kent county, Michigan who recently resigned due to failing health. Rick built a long career in Logistics Management & served the City of Kentwood for over 33 years in various capacities, most recently nine years as Mayor. He was also a long-time member of the Grand Valley Corvette Association (GVCA) in which he made & fostered many long-term friendships. His passion for everything cars & specifically his 1971 Chevy Corvette is shared by his son Damon. Root last month announced that he was retiring after 30+ years of public service, including the last nine as mayor. Succumbed to cancer after a 4 year battle.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karleen Root; his son, Damon & Christy Root; & his granddaughter, Rachel Root; a sister, Londa & Dennis Meier of Lansing, MI; brothers-in-law, Roger & Kay Tews of Chippewa Lake, MI, & Douglas & Julie Tews of Dimondale, MI; several nieces, nephews & cousins.
