Thomas F. Murtha Sr.
Thomas F Murtha Sr. prominent Johnstown resident and father of Thomas F. Murtha, Jr., manager of the Wolf Furniture store, Tyrone, died at his home in Johnstown this morning at 2:30 o’clock following a two week’s illness. Mr. Murtha was a son of Joseph and Margaret Priest Murtha and was born in Johnstown on October 4, 1863. About fifty years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Redmond who died a number of years ago. He is survived by these sons and daughters; Thomas F. Murtha, Jr., Tyrone, Joseph F. Murtha, William Murtha, Leo Murtha, Paul Murtha, Eugene Murtha, all of Johnstown; Mrs. Joseph Brown, Erie, Mrs. Charles Kurtz, Buffalo, NY, and Mrs. Edward McKee, Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Johnstown. A lifelong resident of Johnstown, Mr. Murtha was held in high esteem in his community and for the past twenty-five years had served as a justice of the peace. Funeral services will be held at Johnstown on Monday morning.
