Captain Kirk was selected as part of the newly formed Army helicopter demonstration team to perform at the U.S. International Transportation Exposition (Transpo '72) which was scheduled to begin on Mary 27th.

He was killed by a collision between two Bell OH-58 Kiowa helicopters in preparation for the event before the group even had a name.

Shortly after his death, they adopted the name: SILVER EAGLES.

He is not included on the Vietnam Memorial because he was killed serving his Country stateside.

Capt. Kirk is represented on the Remembrance Rug by symbol #5644.
