BERRY Ray Bobo, age 90, of Berry, died June 5, 2010, at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Norwood Chapel in Fayette with his children officiating and Norwood Chapel of Fayette directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lois T. Bobo; his three brothers Newton, Arlie, and Willie B.; one sister, Dicie Bobo Yerby; his parents, W.L. and Levirt Dudley Bobo; and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn P. Bobo.
Survivors include his son, Foy R. (Judy) Bobo of Mobile; his daughter, Anita (Ron) Bobo Morris of Fayette; one brother, Albert Lee Bobo of Morris; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ray was a proud World War II Navy veteran who was still able to wear his Navy uniforms and did so on patriotic holidays. He worked tirelessly for Brown Wood Preserving Company for 47 years until his retirement at age 74. He was a master vegetable gardener who enjoyed sharing his harvest with as many people as he could. He remained active in church and civic activities until his recent illness. He served on the Board of Trustees, both active and emeritus, for Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Pallbearers include his grandsons, Frank Pellerin, Mike Bobo, John JeBailey, Andrew Ray Gordon, John T. Gordon, and Kyle Newman, his brother-in-law, Charles Bagwell, and his cousin, Wyman McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers include the following special people in Ray's life: Dr. Jon Sanford; Hospice; Central Church of Christ members; Eddie Moore, Larry Moore, Willard Tyner, Nolan Dean Sanders; Morningside staff and residents; friends and neighbors of the Morris, Brownville, and Berry communities; former employees of Brown Wood Preserving Company; and the local Fayette chapter of the VFW.
Mr. Bobo loved children and children loved him. He was a strong supporter of AGAPE, a Christian agency for helping children in various ways; therefore, loved ones may choose to honor his memory through donations to this worthy cause if they desire to do so.
