Alma Compton Adams, 95, formerly of Old Richmond Road died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after being in declining health for several years.

Mrs. Adams was born in Ringgold, VA on March 9, 1915 the daughter of the late J. Willie Compton and the late Sue Slayton Compton. She spent all of her life in the Pittsylvania County area where she worked at EvelynÂ?s Dress Shoppe as a sales clerk until her retirement. She was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church.

On December 9, 1934 she married J. Housin Adams who died on May 5, 1985.

Mrs. Adams is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Dodson and her husband Aubrey D. Dodson of Danville, VA and Faye A. Oakes and her husband W. Neal Oakes of Keeling, VA; one sister, Margaret C. Hogan of Danville, VA; five grandchildren, Wendy D. Mines and her husband Col. Barry S. Mines of W.P.A.F.B., Dayton, OH, Adam B. Dodson and his wife Patty E. Dodson of Danville, VA, Forrest L. Dodson and his wife Michelle S. Dodson of Danville, VA, Steven N. Oakes and his wife April A. Oakes of Sutherlin, VA, and Michelle O. Collins and her husband Jeff S. Collins of Keeling, VA; and eleven great grandchildren Evan and Ethan Mines, Aaron and Noah Collins, Bailey, Dawson and Collin Oakes, Adam Walker, Emily Dodson , Madison Merricks and Taylor Grace Dodson.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by four brothers, R. Lacy Compton, Sr., Johnnie S. Compton, Homer Compton and Lynwood Compton; and three sisters, Belva C. Hall, Beatrice C. Adams, and Thelma C. Wiles.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Bill Soyars and the Reverend Tom Brown officiating. A private burial will be held in Highland Burial Park. The family will be at the residence of Faye and Neal Oakes, 600 Adams Trail, Keeling VA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Kentuck Baptist Church at 1845 Kentuck Church Road, Ringgold, VA 24586, or a charity of your choice. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main is respectfully serving the Adams family.
