Elder John Bentley Adams was born September 10, 1912, near Howard in the Wesley Community of Taylor Co., Ga.; the son of John Henry Adams and Nettie Orean Smith Adams. His parents were both active in Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, and his father was ordained a Deacon of Shiloh Church April 28, 1906. His grandparents, Joseph Randall Adams and Mary Elizabeth Caldwell Adams were also members of Shiloh Church.

Elder Adams joined Shiloh Church in June 1935 and was baptized the 4th Sunday in June 1935. His wife, Sister Carolyn Florine Beeland Adams joined at the water and they both were baptized by Elder Sylvester Hassell McCorkle. Elder Adams was ordained a Deacon at Shiloh Church and was ordained to the full functions of the Gospel Ministry at Shiloh Church on November 30, 1952.

Elder Adams was very active and Faithful to his church and to the Upatoi Association of Primitive Baptist. He served Shiloh Church as Clerk, Deacon, and Pastor. He also served Bethel Church and Bethlehem Church in Taylor County, Ga.; Pleasant Hill Church in Thomaston; Mt. Pisgah in Marion County, Ga.; Mt. Paron Church in Box Springs, Ga.; New Bethel Church in Pitts, Ga. and Mt. Carmel Church in Crawford Co., Ga. Elder Adams helped build and Constitute Pleasant Hill Church in Thomaston, Ga.

Elder Adams was a messenger to the Upatoi Primitive Baptist Association in 1936 at his home church, Shiloh, and attended continually for the next fifty years, serving on several committees and as assistant clerk. Elder Adams was a strong supporter of the Upatoi Association and was Elected Moderator of the Association each year from 1956 to 1984 for a total of 29 years. He was Moderator Emeritus at the time of his death.

Elder Adams passed on to a better world, February 9, 1989. He will be missed by all that have known him and whose life he has touched here in this world. His Son and Brother John R. Adams, Sr.
