Son of Peggy Jackson White and the late Phillip White, Troy was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was the devoted husband of Pamela McKnight White and loving father of Hugh (Trey) Gilbert Bell, III.

Other than his family and friends, Troy's love for his country and flying were beyond words or description.

Troy served in Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. He had been in the Air National Guard at McEntire Joint National Guard Base since eighteen years of age. At the time of his death he served as an aircraft maintenance crew chief.

Both Troy and Curtis Gilford Bell lost their lives when a vintage military plane piloted by Bell crashed in a wooded area between Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina.

HIGH FLIGHT

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ...

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent lifting mind I have trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr. (1922 - 1941)
