Vernon Barnett Mulberry was the first child born to David Mulberry and Mary E. Rhoades on April 7, 1906 in Spy Hill Saskatchewan. The attending physician was Dr. E. W. Hatt. His birth was registered in Canada, North-West Territories, and is record number 330 of 1905. Vernon's father David Mulberry filled in the registration form himself, and signed it on the 18th day of September, 1905. The Registrar for Moosomin received the registration and signed it on the 23rd of September, 1905.

Vern grew up in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan on the land that his father David Mulberry homesteaded in 1883. Vernon Barnett Mulberry's' sister Ena Mae Mulberry was born the very next year on July 17, 1906. His brother Sydney Rhoades Mulberry was born July 14, 1908. Then on September 15, 1910 his youngest sister Phyllis Isabel Mulberry was born. The children were all given a name of a relative. Vernon's middle name ‘Barnett' was his grandmother ‘Thomasina Anne Elizabeth Barnett Mulberry's maiden name. Ena's middle name ‘Mae' was her mother ‘Mary Mae Rhoades Mulberry's middle name. Sydney's middle name ‘Rhoades' was his mother's maiden name ‘Mary Mae Rhoades'. Phyllis's middle name ‘Isabel' was from her father David's sister, ‘Isabella Mulberry', and his mother Mary's sister ‘Isabella Rhoades'.
In 1909 a big hail storm prompted David Mulberry to sell his farm, and he bought the Hotel in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan. Mary Mae Rhoades Mulberry ran a boarding house in Spy Hill. David ran the hotel and he also helped build some earlier buildings including the United Church in Spy Hill.
David moved his family to Brandon, Manitoba and worked as a mechanic for the Nichols and Sheppard Machine Company. Later, David and his family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived on McGee Street. Then, David bought a house on 390 Alfred Avenue.

Vernon attended school in Winnipeg. He went to St. John's Tec High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba off of Salter Street.

He married Signe Elizabeth Gunstrom [Grundstrom] Mulberry
M-September 30, 1930 The 7:00 p.m. wedding was held at Gordon Hill Memorial Church of Elmwood, with Reverend David G. Paton officiating.
*Best Man was the groom's brother Sid Mulberry
*Maid of Honor was Violet Ellenthorpe

Vernon and Betty Mulberry had two sons,
Lorne Vernon Mulberry (1931-2007)
Bryan Lyle Mulberry (1936-)

Vernon worked for the WILLIAM E. REID, COMPANY, Limited. They dealt with Grain, Stocks, Government and Municipal Bonds. He worked for them for 18 years. In 1941, the grain brokerage business and the stock brokerage business collapsed and he was forced to seek employment elsewhere. He received high commendation from this firm at this time.

Later, Vernon worked for the CANADIAN WHEAT BOARD in Winnipeg until his retirement. After retiring, he and his wife Betty eventually sold their home on Elm Park Road. They moved to Burnaby, British Columbia for a time in transition and preparing for their move to Southern California. They eventually bought a town home in Fullerton, California where they lived for five years. They enjoyed life in California with lovely weather, beautiful scenery and colourful vegetation. They decided that they would like to spend their last years back up in Winnipeg. They sold the California town home, and purchased another home at 79 Rockspur Street in Winnipeg. It had three levels, an attached garage and a nice big backyard to enjoy. Once again, Grandpa had a workbench to putter around on in the garage, and built one in the basement as well.

Vern lived on Rockspur Street until he departed this earth. He died of complications that arose after prostate cancer, leaving behind his dear wife Betty. Betty Mulberry passed away on November 4, 1991 from Alzheimer's disease.

Vern will always be remembered as a man good with numbers, and a talent for organization. He kept a carbon copy of every letter he wrote! He will also be remembered for his love of the Irish. He loved potatoes (Irish Apples), Irish Stew and the colour green! He always sent me a SAINT PATRICK'S DAY CARD! He even painted his little miniature horse figurine ‘green', and kept it above the rear-view mirror in his cars.

Both Vernon and his wife Betty are buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. They are buried next to his wife's parents, BEDA AND GOTTFRID GUNSTROM [GRUNDSTROM].
