After her mother Susan's death, Caroline was raised by her grandparents, Alonzo and Lucetta Fisher who lived near Hager City, WI. She was baptised at Svea Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hager City, WI. At the age of 18, Caroline married George Arthur Mallan, and raised 13 children to adulthood. They farmed near Belvidere, MN and moved into Red Wing in 1923 where George worked at Red Wing Pottery and at a coal company. After his death, Caroline remarried Elmer Richards, and had two sons, Clarence and Elmer. After their divorce, the boys took the name Mallan.
