Ernest Eugene Clay died April 26 at the Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, California. He was 81. Born in San Diego, Ernest Eugene attended Grossmont High School and was a member of the wrestling team. He loved to wrestle and continued it during his college career becoming San Diego State College's Wrestling Champion. Mr. Clay attended San Diego State College on the G. I. Bill of Rights after his discharge from the Army Air Force at the end of World War II. . He graduated from San Diego State College with a BS in General Engineering. In June of 1950, Ernest Eugene Clay graduated from the University of California at Berkley with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. He became a Registered Civil Engineer.
 
Ernest Eugene was first employed by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Water and Power. He was designated the Project Engineer for the Pleasant Valley Dam, an earth fill dam designed to bring water to the Los Angeles basin. He moved his family to Bishop, California. At the age of 30, Mr. Clay became the Resident Engineer for the Power Department and also managed the soils laboratory. The Pleasant Valley Dam was completed in 1957.
 
Ernest Eugene and family then moved to San Diego where he was employed by the City of San Diego Water/Utilities Department. Mr. Clay retired as the Deputy Director in 1986.
 
Ernest Eugene Clay is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ardys May and 4 children, Dane Clay of Lacey,Washington, Rod Clay of Santee, California, Rory Clay of ?, Lisa Clay of San Diego and one sister, Darlene Clay Davis of Huntsville, Alabama.
