Youth Killed By Dry Agent In Still Raid: Harrison, Feb 24 Walter Kilburn, 18-year-old farmer, was shot to death by Prohibition Agent J. W. Ledbetter of Fayetteville during a raid on a still near Pindall, Searcy county, Tuesday night.
Ledbetter said here today he shot in self-defense after Kilburn had fired one shot at him with a shotgun. W. F. Martin, companion of Kilburn, was arrested and brought to Harrison, charged with a prohibition law violation.
S. M. Gurley of Fort Smith, deputy prohibition administrator in charge of the investigation, said Ledbetter was informed of the location of a still near Pindall and asked U. S. marshal Boca to accompany him.
The two were taken by two informers to a still which was not in operation. While Ledbetter was examining the still, Kilburn and Martin appeared. Gurley said Kilburn was said to have threatened Ledbetter with a shotgun. Ledbetter knocked the gun aside just as Kilburn fired. Gurley said Kilburn then jumped on Ledbetter.
