PFC William H. Crabtree, 28 years of age, was killed in action in Germany on April 5 his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Crabtree, North of town, were notified here Friday. No particulars were given. Pfc. Crabtree, a veteran of three years in service, was in the coastal artillery and then was transferred to the infantry as a machine gunner. He was serving with the 9th Division of the First Army when killed. He trained at Camp Wallace, Texas and then served 22 months on unrevealed duties in Puerto Rico. He entered the European Theater in Southern France and later served in Belgium before entering Germany. Tall, congenial and well liked, Pfc. Crabtree was a holder of the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church and had an excellent reputation. Before entering the service, he was employed at farming with his father. He graduated from Campbellsville High School in 1939. Surviving besides his parents, are a brother and two sisters: Mrs. H. L. Board, Louisville; Miss Flora Crabtree and George Crabtree, city. His grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Cantrell, Green County, also survives.

Funeral services for Pfc. William H. Crabtree who was killed in action on April 5, 1945, in Germany, were held Sunday, Dec. 19 at the Campbellsville Baptist Church. Full military honors were accorded the deceased serviceman with Kentucky National Guard members in charge of the service. Officiating were the Rev. E. P. Gast, the Rev. W. R. Simmone, and the Chaplain. Pfc. Crabtree was born April 10, 1917, the son of Cleveland and Delia Crabtree. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, George Crabtree, Campbellsville, and two sisters, Mrs. Buckner Miller, Campbellsville, and Mrs. Herbert L. Board, Oregon. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Honorary bearers were Clyde Williams Jr., Henry Bell, Bill Mayes, Lloyd Parrott, Gibb Pike, and George Williams
