Obituary for Lewis N. Long, The Western Spirit, Paola, KS, pg 3, 22 Jan 1892, Miami County Genealogical Society, Paola, KS.

"His Work Done - Lewis Long, brother of Amos W. Long, died at his home nine miles southeast of Paola, in Osage Twp., Tuesday, after a ten days' illness with pneumonia. He was the only brother of ex-Sheriff A. W. Long of Paola, and a son of Samuel and Catherine Morgan Long. He was formerly from near Tarleton, Pickaway County, Ohio, where he was born October 10/17 (conflicting info), 1832. He married in that county and came to Kansas in 1857, locating in Linn County, where he located a claim and lived for a great many years. Since that time he has been a resident of either Linn or Miami and was generally engaged in operating a saw mill. He was always an industrious man, but of recent years his health had been poor. Mr. Long was a veteran of the late war. He leaves four sons and three daughters by a former wife and two daughters by his present wife, all of whom are grown but two daughters. The funeral services were held at his late residence yesterday, from where the remains were taken to the Spangler cemetery, east of La Cygne, and laid to rest at the side of his first wife. Mr. Long was a generous, hard-working man, who amid the hardships of rearing a large family, always did the best he could. He was liked by neighbors and his death is deeply regretted by a host of friends.

Children: Martha Caroline "Matt" McCarty, Mary Ann "Mollie" Stainbrook, a child that died young, William H. "Bill" Long, Sarah Ellen "Ell" Davis Cook, Naomi G. Long (died at age one), Charles Edward Long, Frank A. Long and George W. Long with first wife Rachael Spangler; Maude May Long Davis and Katherine T. Long Anderson with second wife Charlotte "Lottie" Hamilton.
