Mary Joslin Duggan August 12, 2011 Mary Joslin Duggan died August 12, 2011, in Bangor, Maine, where she had resided in recent months. A longtime resident of DeWitt, Mary Dorothy Joslin was born March 3, 1923, in Ilion, NY, the daughter of Chester and Ann Parkinson Joslin. She grew up in Old Forge, in the heart of the Adirondacks, in the home hand-built by her father. Following graduation from the Town of Webb High School, Mary completed training at Syracuse University Hospital of the Good Shepard School of Nursing. After her children were grown, Mary earned a Certificate in Religious Education from the Loyola Institute for Ministry. She was sponsored in that program and in ongoing education and training by St. Therese Roman Catholic parish in Syracuse. Mary served as director of Religious Education at St. Therese, where she was highly regarded by her colleagues, parish staff, her students and their parents. Mary was active in Diocesan religious education planning and programming, was a Eucharistic Minister, and served on the St. Therese Parish Council. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mary is survived by her children with John J. Duggan, Ann D. Trainor of Veazie, ME, David B. Duggan of Skaneateles, Mary P. Duggan of Portland, ME, Kathleen D. Nagle of Palmyra and Elizabeth D. Coenen of Cottage Grove, MN. She was predeceased in 1996 by her beloved son, John Duggan Jr., whose wife Sharon resides in DeWitt. Also surviving are her brother, Chester Joslin of South Glens Falls, NY; and two generations of nieces and nephews. Her brother, Robert, died in 2010. Mary had the joy of welcoming 16 grandchildren: Brendan, Dylan and Kevin Trainor; Ann and Conor Duggan; Abigail, Joseph and Samuel Duggan; James, Elizabeth, Samuel and Thomas Redstone; Christopher, Jonathan and Meghan Nagle; and Daniel Coenen. She relished their companionship and was always ready for an outing with them. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burns Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, August 19, at All Saints Catholic Church on Lancaster Avenue in Syracuse.
