Priest, biblical scholar, seminary rector and interfaith pioneer. He was ordained in Rome on Dec. 8, 1954. He received a licentiate in sacred theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a licentiate in sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute.He was rector of St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester from 1966-1980, after which he was named dean of St. Edmund's College at Cambridge, England. From 1983-1986 he was pastor of St. Mary's in Scottsville, then from 1986-1996 he was the director of religious affairs at the University of Rochester. From 1986 until his death from cancer at the Mercy Center he was the weekend assistant at St. Mary's Church in downtown Rochester. His legacy includes the Brennan-Goldman Institute which furthers Catholic-Jewish relations. At his funeral mass at St. Mary's his farewell was presided over by Bishop Matthew Clark, a Protestant minister, a rabbi and an imam as testimony to his dedication to interfaith work. His body was donated for scientific research and his cremains were interred on September 22, 2009.
