Recipient of Military Cross (posthumous)

Corporal
D (Cambridgeshire) Company
1st Battalion (Vikings)
The Royal Anglian Regiment
British Army

He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Cpl Guy was killed by enemy fire while leading his fire support section forward to assist a group of Afghan soldiers. They were on a partnered patrol in the Nad 'Ali district of Helmand province.

Aged 37, he was born in Norwich into a military family and grew up in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. He enlisted into the army aged 18 and joined the "The Vikings" in 1993. He was quickly identified as a talented young leader and was promoted to Lance Corporal in 1995. In 2000 he was selected for training as a specialist in the Anti-Tank Platoon and was promoted to corporal in 2003. After a spell as an Army recruiter he returned to the Battalion in 2010 to begin preparations for deployment to Afghanistan in March 2012 where his section was attached to B Company of the Estonian Scouts Battalion, part of the 1 Royal Anglian Battlegroup. During his nineteen years of loyal service he deployed on no fewer than eight operational tours, including Bosnia, Iraq, three of Northern Ireland and three of Afghanistan. He had also been recently selected for promotion to the rank of Sergeant. Colleagues remembered him for his strength of character and mentoring of younger soldiers. A "jack of all trades", he was a dependable man who persevered through hard times.

Cpl Guy leaves behind his wife Emma, parents, Aileen and Andrew, and sisters Rebecca and Martha, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral with full military honours was held on July 10, 2012 at the Garrison Church of St George in Bulford, Wiltshire.

*On March 22, 2013 Cpl Guy was posthumously awarded the Military Cross (MC) for exemplary gallantry in combat.
