He was a Master Mechanic, having worked in mining, for Basic Inc. in Gabbs. He was past Mayor and city councilman in Gabbs, a life member of the Gabbs Fire Department a life member of Gabbs VFW Post 3677 member of the Gabbs Lions Club, The NRA, St. Michaels Catholic Church, Sandy Bottom Golf Club and the Gabbs Valley Sportsman's Club. He was also a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martina and daughter, Frances (Kelly) Hanifen, all of Gabbs daughter, Pat (Wayne) Whitten of Fallon daughter, Gail (Joe) Carter of Carson City son, Jim (Penny) Alworth of Ely grandchildren, Karen Whitten and Kelli Hanifen of Fallon Tony Whitten and Amy Hendrickson of Ely Leslie Alworth and James Hanifen of Reno; great grandson, Derek Whitten of Fallon; brother, John of Temple City, Calif.; sisters, Nadine Yeldig of Beaverton, Ore., and Betty Ridgley of Castro Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Cass and Robert and by a sister, Gilda Cox.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2001, 1:00 PM, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fallon. Graveside services with military honors will follow at the Fallon Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Fallon.
A memorial is established with the Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL or to one's favorite charity.
