Mr. Mayer was the son of Louis and Ida Mayer of Scranton's Ash Street. He became a barber and married Ethel Nauman, 2 Feb 1915. He served in the Army before WWI; Ethel remembered traveling to Camp Gordon, Georgia, to visit him. In 1929, they moved into a double store front on Prescott Avenue with an apartment upstairs; he had the barbershop, and Ethel had the bakery. Charlie was devoted to his community, organizing the East Scranton Crystal Band, Mayer's Majorettes, the East Scranton State Bank, and a children's Halloween parade.
