ALLIE DOTY CHILDERS, 96, a resident of Memphis for many years died Saturday, March 11, 2006 in Simpsonville, SC. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Memphis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 15 at the Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar, with burial following in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Allie was born in McCool, MS, but lived most of her adult life in Memphis, TN. She was a member of Union Avenue Baptist Church where she taught the seven-year-old class in the Primary Department for almost thirty years. She was a member of the Naomi Sunday School Class. Mrs. Childers was a charter member of the Childers/Childress Family Association which was organized in Memphis in 1982. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The daughter of Murry F. Doty and Maude A. Wade, she was the widow of William Nick Childers and predeceased by a son, William Jack Childers. Mrs. Childers leaves one son, Dr. Bob E. Childers of South Carolina, a sister, Doris Fisher of Nebraska, and five grandchildren, William Frank Childers of Waynesville, NC, Dr. R. Clayton Childers of Manassas, VA, Dr. John M. Childers of St. Louis, MO, Julia Childers Sewell of Kingsport, TN, and William Nick Childers of Stevenson Range, CA; and nine great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a loving friend to many.
