Services held Monday for retired Crete Businessman
Frank Sand, who had operated F & M Gas and Oil Company in Crete for 24 years and who had been an Allis-Chalmers dealer here for 15 years before that, died in Lincoln Thursday, Nov. 16, at the age of 73.
Frank Sand, the only child of Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Degenhardt) Sand, was born June 19, 1916, on the Degenhardt farm north of Crete. He attended St. James Catholic School and graduated from Crete High School.
On Feb. 8, 1937, he married Marie Prochaska. The couple had six children. Sands lived east of Crete first, and then moved to a farm west of Crete. In 1947 Sand purchased the Allis-Chalmers Equipment dealership. The business was located on Norman Avenue, just north of 13th. At the time of his retirement in 1986 he had managed F & M gas & Oil for 24 years. After retirement he continued to enjoy farming with his sons. He was a member of Sacred heart Catholic Church.
Sand is survived by his widow; sons Philip M. and Gordon J. Sand of Crete and Franklin Sand of York; daughters Mrs. Keith (Kathleen) Foss and Nancy church of Lincoln and Marge Timothy of Crete; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Services were held Monday morning at Sacred Heart. Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Belka, Alvin Kalkwarf, bob Lorenz, Dave Muff, Bob Sundling, and Dean Johnson.
