Jerry D. Alexander died October 16, 2009. He was born October 7, 1957 to Marvin and Beatrice (Duke) Alexander, in the Sand Creek Community of Boley. He was the youngest of four siblings.
At a very early age he confessed a hope in Christ and united with the St. Emanuel Baptist Church. Jerry attended the Sand Creek Elementary School, Boley High School and Drury College. He loved sports his entire life. He played basketball four years for the Boley Bears at Boley High School, winning the State Championship in 1975. Jerry became the first player in Drury history to tally more than 2,000 points and stands second on the all time scoring list. The Springfield newspaper once ran an article entitled "Drury No Longer Dull, Boley Has Arrived". In 1979 Jerry led the way for Drury team to win the NAIA Nation Championship. After he earned his degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, Jerry began coaching and teaching in the Kansas City area.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Marvin, and brother, Stephen.
He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Alexander of Boley, brothers, Marvin W. and wife, Cheryele of Des Moines, Iowa, William Duke Jr. and wife, Charolottie of Tulsa, sister, Pinkie L. Williams of San Antonio, Texas, son, Tywan Shanks and Grandson of Tulsa, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Services for Jerry were Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Boley. Rev. Allen Threatt III officiated. Services were under the direction of Hyde Park Mortuary of Boley.
