R. Michael Evans, 60, Maryville, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Preceded: mother and step-father, Mary Alice (Helzer) and Gilbert Boyer; father, Raymond Evans; sister, Judith McKain.

Survivors: wife, Marcia Evans, Maryville; daughters, Annah (Kristopher) Pettlon, Maryville, Tricia (Tyler) French, Chicago, Ill., Karley Evans, Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Keyton, Jaxon, Anastyn, Jarrick, Tallulah; siblings, Carolyn Wells, Haltom City, Texas, Patricia Brost, St. Joseph, Kenneth (Barbara) Evans, Woodbine, Iowa, Mark (Jeaneen) Boyer, Faucett, Mo., Barbara Cowan, Barnard, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life service: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Rock Port High School Gymnasium, Rock Port, Mo.

R. Michael Evans, 60, went home to be with his Savior and Lord, Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Mike, the son of Raymond Lewis Evans and Mary Alice (Helzer) Evans, was born on September 28, 1951, in Maryville, Missouri. Mike began elementary school at White Cloud, a country school near Graham, Missouri, and attended Nodaway Holt and South Nodaway schools before graduating from South Nodaway High School, Barnard, Missouri, in 1969. In 1973, he graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts. Mike later attended seminary at Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas, and at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri.

On April 10, 1977, Mike was united in marriage to Marcia A. Reynolds at the Barnard United Methodist Church, Barnard. Mike and Marcia were married for 35 years. Mike currently taught Industrial Technology at Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, and was a devoted pastor of the Rock Port Baptist Church. He previously taught at Central High School, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Maryville High School, Maryville. He was formerly a pastor at Green Valley Baptist Church, St. Joseph, Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, King City Baptist Church, King City, Missouri, and had filled many pulpits as a guest speaker or interim minister. Mike also worked in construction for Preferred Lightning Protection in Maryville. He was a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

In 1970, Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior through the Navigators' campus ministry at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, pastor, teacher, and friend. Mike's passion was to serve the Lord as described in Isaiah 61:1-11, by serving people. He was a man who truly loved and cared for people, and he made an impact on everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, his community, and his church family.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Mary Alice (Helzer) and Gilbert Boyer; father, Raymond Evans and sister, Judith McKain. Survivors include wife, Marcia Evans, Maryville; daughters, Annah Pettlon and husband, Kristopher, Maryville; Tricia French and husband, Tyler, Chicago, Illinois.; and Karley Evans, Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Keyton, Jaxon, Anastyn, Jarrick and Tallulah; siblings, Carolyn Wells, Haltom City, Texas; Patricia Brost, St. Joseph; Kenneth Evans and wife, Barbara, Woodbine, Iowa; Mark Boyer and wife, Jeaneen, Faucett, Missouri; and Barbara Cowan, Barnard; brother-in-law, Larry McKain, Gladstone, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
