Melvin J. Karbon, 67, of 3523 Wagon Wheel Road, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly
early Sunday morning, July 7, at home.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rockwood Evangelical Lutheran
Church. The Rev. David Waege will officiate with burial to follow at Branch
Evergreen Cemetery, Branch, Wisconsin. Military rites will be accorded by VFW
Post Number 659.
Mr. Karbon was born August 16, 1927, in the Township of Kossuth, Manitowoc
County, son of the late Joseph and Ella Wacholz Karbon. He grew up and was
educated in the Rockwood area, living in that area most of his life. Mr.
Karbon served with the United States Army from March 1948 to April 1950. Mr.
Karbon was employed at Manitowoc Company since 1964. He was presently
Supervisor with Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. He married the former Helen M.
Krejcarek on September 13, 1949, at Waukegan, Illinois. Mr. Karbon was a
member of Rockwood Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and
Kay Karbon of Newton, WI and Joseph and Janice Karbon of Manitowoc; three
daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Tony Reilly of Manitowoc, Kathleen and
William Groothoff of Virginia and Rosemary and Arthur Komorowski of Manitowoc;
four brothers, Elmer, Chester, Lloyd and Roland, all of Manitowoc; two sisters,
Mrs. Mabel Gadzinski of Manitowoc and Mrs. Luella Barbier of Janesville,
Wisconsin and eight grandchildren also survived. He was preceded in death by
an infant son.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Pfeffer and Reinbold Funeral Home, State
Street Chapel, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday at the
church from noon until the hour of service.
