Lucy was the daughter of Thomas Turpin,Jr. and Mary Polina (Clayton) Turpin of Bedford County. She married first to William Ackerly on May 27, 1847 and had two sons; William Thomas and John Paul. After William's death in 1853 she married for a second time to Abraham Lavell in Jan 1856. A sentence from the book,"Our Kin", by Mary Denham Ackerly, describes her as "a woman of great simplicity of character, but firm in her conceptions of duty, a sincere Christian, a faithful wife, and a devoted mother, who lived for her home and her children." She had six children with her second husband.
