Son of John Ayres and Eliza DeGarmo Haight, husband of Mary Agnes Quinlan, the daughter of Patrick Quinlan and Mary Bufflen, and father of Percy Stockbridge, Ruth, Mary Olive and Elisha Ayres.

In 1880, Reuben Ayers, aged 14, was living in Monroe, Orange, NY, in the home of his uncle, Augustus Ayers, aged 20, a waiter, and aunt, Eliza Ayers, aged 35, a pastry cook, with his brother, Stanley Ayers, aged 16.

In 1900, Reuben John Ayers, aged 35, born March 1865 in New York, was living in Woodbury, Orange, NY, with his wife, Mary Q. Ayers, aged 30, born December 1869 in Ireland, and children, Persival S. Ayers, aged 9, born January 1890 in New York, Ruth G. Ayers, aged 6, born April 1894 in New York, Olive M. Ayers, aged 5, born October 1894 in New York, and Elisha S. Ayers, aged 3, born April 1897 in New York. Reuben was shown to be a hotel porter. On December 2, 1920, Reuben Ayres, of Patchogue, and John Case, of Sayville, left to go to Los Angelis, California, for the winter, in the hopes of finding carpenter work.

Brown, aged 32, and daughter, Olive (Ayres) Brown, aged 30, and their children, Ruth G. Brown, aged 10, Jacquelyn Brown, aged 1, and Eugene Brown, aged 6. Reuben was shown to be a carpenter, as was his son-in-law.
