Marjorie Frances Mead Miller, born October 9, 1926, in Colchester, Vermont; died April 27, 2012, Kagel Canyon, California. Marge went to sleep at home and woke up in the arms of the Lord.She was the daughter of Francis Mason Mead and Jesse Ravlin Mead. Marjorie was predeceased by brothers, Headley "Buddy" Nelson, Francis "Sonny" Mead; sisters, Jeanette Nelson Wilkinson and Beverly Mead Brown; and survived by sisters, Ruth Nelson Vander Wall and Carole Mead Zais, both of Rockford, Illinois. Marjorie is also survived by very special friend and companion, Steven Klingenberg of Kagel Canyon, California. She leaves her children, David and Cathy Miller of Riverside, California, Daniel Miller, Diane Miller Barela, and Dean-Alan Miller, all of Tehachapi, California. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.Marjorie grew up on her father's farm in Colchester, Vermont, and later married Edward Miller (deceased) of Bristol, Connecticut. She taught Sunday school at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bristol and also helped with Cub Scouts during those early years.She relocated to Whittier, California, in 1968. Marjorie enjoyed collecting antiques and owned and operated three antique shops in Whittier and La Habra, California; owned and operated an auto parts store in Whittier, California; worked for the Super Shopper Newspaper in Big Bear Lake, California; and she worked for Two Guys and White Front Department Stores, where she provided paste-up art work for their advertisements. Her hobbies and interests included gardening, travel, community events, and reading. She was active as president of the Kagel Canyon Woman's Club, vice-president of the Kagel Canyon Civic Association, and worked for L.A. City Councilmen Howard Finn and Joel Wachs. She was responsible for requesting and seeing through improvements made to the Kagel Canyon Flood Control Channel, the closing of the Lopez Canyon Landfill, the building of a debris basin, and the proper road striping in Kagel Canyon. She volunteered for the Pacoima Negro Woman's Foundation and helped with food distribution after the 1979 Northridge, California earthquake. Marjorie established the Friends of Dexter Park and provided volunteer hours for this Los Angeles County Park. Marjorie served as vice-president of the Applewood Estates Homeowners Association, in Tehachapi, California.A memorial service to celebrate Marjorie's life was held at the First Baptist Church of Tehachapi, on May 04, 2012, where she was a member. Marjorie will be placed to rest at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery - Eastside. Marjorie has touched the lives of numerous people and will be missed by all who knew her.
