Norma Yvonne Alexander, 72, of Henley died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, after being in failing health for some time. She was born March 26, 1936, at Brawley, California, to Horace Elmer and Eather Alma Earls Riggs. She was married Aug 14, 1989, in Jefferson City to Bobby Myrl Alexander, who survives at the home.

Mrs. Alexander was a member of Sehpherds Chapel Church in Gravette, Ark., but attended services closer to home when her health permitted. She was a special education teacher, retiring from the Eugene School System in 1992 due to her health.

Also surviving her are: a son, Michael Robert Alexander of California; four daughters and their spouses, Rhonda Burns of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Rita Arnold of West Plains, Rayma and Dave Leach of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Karen (Alexander) and Rob Scherer of Jefferson City; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Shawna and Bradley Sanders of West Plains, Adam Brotherton of Dubuque, Iowa, Christopher and Amanda Brotherton of West Plains, Jonothon and Legha Lashley of Caulfield, Melissa and Brian Hadley of Caulfield, Martin Burns of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Tom Sanders of Phoenix, Ariz., Gina Sanders of Jefferson City, and Mia Leach of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Isaac Sanders, Jake Lashley, Gracie Lashley, Hunter Lashley, Case Lashley, Brand Sanders, Clayton Brotherton, Natalie Hadley, Abigail Hadley and Audrey Brotherton.

Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant son, twin to Renee, in 1959, and a daughter and her husband, Renee and jim Lashley in Feb 12, 2004, due to an auto accident.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dixon Chapel of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Pastor David ARinder of Woodcrest Chapel in Jefferson City officiating. Burial was in Freedom Cemetery near Dixon. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
