Ruel farmed and owned a tavern in N. Clarendon, VT. He m. first Sally Richardson who died in 1826. He m. 2nd Emily Hatch widow of Benjamin Tenney. Ruel and Emily would have 11 children 4 of whom (Frances Jane, Marion, Jonathan, & Charley )died young. Children living to adulthood were Frederick W., Jackson V., Charles A, Sarah, Abby, Hannah and Catherine. In 1861,at nearly 70 years of age, Ruel took advantage of a homestead opportunity and moved his family from N. Clarendon, VT to Newport, MN. After the Civil War when Ruel's youngest son Charles A Parker came of age, he assumed management of the Parker Homestead and developed it into a successful farm.
