Ezekiel Alsbury Garner and Hattie Jewel Hogue Garner were the parents of Johnnie Mae Garner Skaggs,Edith Opal Garner Wilson,James Garner,and Elsie Garner.Ezekiel was born August 14,1889 and passed away January 10,1928.He worked for Reynolds mines and was hit in the head by a tiny pebble during an explosion of dynamite at work one day.Just a few short months later he passed from complications from this injury.He was only 38 years old at this time and Johnnie was about 16.Thats all we know of him.Hattie Jewel was born on September 30,1890 and passed away December 24,1983.Jewel was the daughter of Lucinda Dorinda Mashburn Hogue. Jewel never remarried after Ezekiel's death but chose to raise their 3 children-Johnnie Mae,Edith Opal,James and Elsie by herself.Johnnie is buried at New Rosemont in Benton,Ark.,Edith is at McPherson in Sardis,Ark.,James is at Mundelein,Ill.,And Elsie dying at the age of 2 is at McPherson in Sardis by her mom and dad.Jewel's Mother,Lucinda, is related to the Mashburns from the East End community in Saline County.After the death of the Mr. Hogue she married a Methodist preacher named Rev. E.L. Watson and they lived in the Sardis Community.Lucinda is buried at McPherson in Sardis.
